Texting Trouble

Today, most of us are connected 24x7 to our email and the Internet through our phones, which means that many of us spend a significant amount of time texting. Being freed from our desks may have removed one set of repetitive stress injuries, but excessive texting brings with it a new set of overuse injuries.
For example, since texters tend to type solely with their thumbs, the thumb and the fleshy area beneath it are common sites of injury. In fact, the disorder has been dubbed "Blackberry thumb" after the popular wireless PDA model.
Symptoms of "Blackberry thumb" include pain and numbness in the thumbs and joints of the hand. This condition is commonly found in people who also suffer from neck or upper-back discomfort.
If you text frequently, your doctor of chiropractic will share tips on preventing overuse injuries and assist you in devising a safe and effective plan to alleviate discomfort.
